UAE residents to get five or six holidays on Eid Al Adha 2023

As the much-anticipated festival of Eid Al Adha approaches, the UAE residents are eagerly looking forward to a well-deserved and joyous long weekend. This year, the holiday coincides with the closing of schools for the two-month summer break, adding an extra layer of excitement for families and students alike.

The duration of the long weekend will depend on the sighting of the Moon, as it marks the beginning and end of the Islamic Hijri calendar months. The official holiday period for Eid Al Adha is designated from the 9th to the 12th of Dhul Hijjah in the Islamic calendar. However, the corresponding dates in the Gregorian calendar can vary based on the sighting of the Moon.

Six-day weekend on Eid Al Adha 2023

According to recent astronomical calculations, it is estimated that the Eid Al Adha holiday will likely take place from Tuesday, June 27, to Friday, June 30. The extended break includes the regular Saturday and Sunday weekend, resulting in a delightful six-day vacation for individuals to enjoy.

Eid Al Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is observed during the 12th and final month of the Islamic Hijri calendar, called Dhul Hijjah.

Based on the sighting of the Moon, if it is observed on the night of June 18, Dhul Hijjah will commence on June 19, setting the stage for a six-day holiday weekend starting on June 27. On the other hand, if the Moon is not sighted on June 18, Dhul Hijjah will begin on June 20, resulting in a five-day weekend that commences on June 28.

To determine the exact duration of the weekend, whether it will be five or six days, confirmation will be provided on Dhul Qaidah 29, which falls on June 18. This information will bring clarity to the anticipated break, allowing residents to plan their activities and celebrations accordingly.

‘Festival of Sacrifice’

As the UAE prepares to celebrate Eid Al Adha, the prospect of a long weekend and the upcoming summer break fill the air with a sense of joy and anticipation. Families, friends, and communities will come together to commemorate this important religious occasion with prayers, feasts, acts of charity, and quality time spent with loved ones.

While the exact length of the holiday weekend will be determined closer to the date, it is certain that UAE residents will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the festivities, embrace the spirit of togetherness, and create lasting memories during this special time.
