GEMS Education issues statement after fee increase announcement by KHDA

Dubai’s private schools have been granted the green light to raise their fees by up to 5.2 percent for the upcoming academic year, contingent on their performance in the latest annual inspections.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai’s education regulator, has introduced an Education Cost Index (ECI) of 2.6 percent, serving as the basis for schools to adjust their fees for the 2024-25 academic session.

Dino Varkey, Group Chief Executive Officer, GEMS Education, said: “The decision to increase school fees for academic year 2024-25, depending on KHDA approval for each school, empowers us to invest further in our teachers, curriculum provision, and facilities, the bedrocks of a quality education for every student.

“We will be informing our families in due course about their schools’ fee structure for the coming academic year, and we thank them again for their continuing trust in a GEMS Education school as the best choice for their children.”

Under the new regulations, schools that have maintained or improved their ratings in the annual inspections conducted by the KHDA will be eligible to apply for fee increases. However, those schools that have seen a decline in their ratings will not be permitted to seek any fee hikes.

It is crucial to note that any adjustments in fees by schools must receive approval from the KHDA, ensuring transparency and accountability in the process. This move reflects Dubai’s commitment to maintaining high standards in its education sector while addressing the evolving needs of students and educators.
