Before the pandemic, Hong Kong received an average of 56 million visitors yearly. However, the COVID-19 outbreak caused a drastic drop, with only around 100,000 visitors in 2022.

Strict quarantine regulations, including a 21-day isolation period and multiple PCR test requirements deterred most travelers from visiting Hong Kong.
