Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated the Mall of the Emirates Smart Bus Station, the emirate’s first fully digital bus station. The facility marks a new step in RTA’s efforts to create an integrated public transport network using smart technologies to improve customer service and promote sustainable mobility.
Smart bus station features
The 147-square-metre station serves 11 bus routes, including six Metro feeder routes, three internal routes, and two seasonal lines. It is directly linked to Mall of the Emirates Metro Station, enabling seamless transfers across Dubai’s public transport network. The station includes real-time bus arrival displays, occupancy levels, ticket machines, digital top-ups, smart kiosks, and vending machines. A dedicated rest area for drivers is also provided.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said: “Opening the first smart bus station marks a major step forward in RTA’s strategy to create an integrated, attractive environment for public transport users and deliver advanced, safe and seamless mobility services driven by innovation and digital transformation. The project aligns with the vision of the leadership to make Dubai the best city to live, work and visit.”
He added: “At RTA, we are committed to enhancing customer service by harnessing the latest digital technologies and smart solutions to deliver the highest levels of comfort and efficiency for users, while strengthening the appeal of the public transport network. Adopting this integrated digital model raises operational efficiency and delivers higher levels of customer satisfaction. The station also incorporates advanced systems for crowd management and violation detection through AI-powered cameras, further enhancing safety and ensuring a smoother user experience.”
Technology and sustainability
The station features interactive digital displays integrated with Dubai Metro and taxi services, showing train arrivals, taxi availability, and local landmark information. A virtual assistant supports journey planning and customer inquiries. AI-powered cameras monitor crowd levels and detect violations, while solar panels and air quality sensors align the station with international sustainability standards, reducing its carbon footprint.
The station connects residential, commercial, and tourist areas, including Al Barsha, Umm Suqeim, Al Sufouh, Al Manara, Al Quoz, The Greens, Jumeirah Village Circle, Arabian Ranches, Dubai Science Park, Dubai Studio City, Dubai Miracle Garden, and Global Village. It is positioned as a key interchange that enhances multimodal transport efficiency and encourages greater use of public transit.
