UAE insurance sector assets hit Dhs164.9 billion, up 6.1%

The UAE insurance sector recorded strong growth in 2025, with gross written premiums, paid claims, total assets and profits all rising from the previous year, according to new data from the Central Bank of the UAE.

Gross written premiums reached Dhs74.8 billion in 2025, up 14.9 per cent from Dhs65.1 billion in 2024.

Total paid claims rose 11 per cent to Dhs46.2 billion, while technical provisions increased 4.4 per cent to Dhs96.3 billion.

The sector’s total assets reached Dhs164.9 billion, up 6.1 per cent from Dhs155.5 billion in 2024. Invested assets stood at Dhs96.4 billion, accounting for 58.4 per cent of total sector assets.

Profits increase

Total profits of UAE insurance companies rose to Dhs4 billion in 2025, compared with Dhs2.6 billion a year earlier.

The premium retention ratio also increased to 56 per cent from 54.9 per cent in 2024.

The number of active insurance policies in the UAE reached 17.3 million. Health insurance policies increased by 26.1 per cent following the introduction of the mandatory basic health insurance scheme.

The UAE had 58 insurance companies operating during the year, while the number of insurance-related professions reached 515.

Insurance coverage

Available capital in the insurance sector stood at 455 per cent of the minimum required level. Insurance density reached around Dhs6,500 per person.

The figures point to continued growth in insurance coverage and demand, while the sector remains an important part of the UAE’s financial system through risk management, investment and support for wider economic activity.
