An Indian resident of Al Ain has been recognised at a national level for his contributions to the Life Endowment campaign, an initiative supporting patients who cannot afford long-term medical care.
The recognition highlights individual giving as part of broader community efforts promoted during the Year of Community.
Donor recognition
Sheikh Shakil, who has lived in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi for nearly 21 years, was honoured by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, for his participation in the Life Endowment initiative. The ceremony took place at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi and included other individual and institutional contributors.
Shakil made 42 donations to the campaign in his name and on behalf of family members, despite having a modest income. His contributions support patients with chronic illnesses and elderly members of the community who require ongoing medical treatment.
Personal commitment
Shakil said: “When Awqaf Abu Dhabi first contacted me about the recognition, I was truly surprised. I never imagined that my contributions to the Life Endowment campaign would lead to being honoured by the President of the UAE. Attending the ceremony was an unforgettable moment and a true privilege, one I will carry with me for the rest of my life. It reminded me of the values this country was built upon: generosity, compassion and caring for one another. I am grateful that I was able to make these contributions on behalf of my family, and I feel I have invested in a better future for everyone who calls the UAE home.”
Life Endowment goals
The Authority of Awqaf and Minors’ Funds Affairs in Abu Dhabi said the Life Endowment campaign is supported by individuals, institutions and companies from both the public and private sectors. The initiative aims to build sustainable funding for healthcare, particularly for patients with chronic conditions who are unable to meet treatment costs.
According to Awqaf Abu Dhabi, contributions of all sizes help extend medical support, strengthen long-term healthcare services and promote a culture of endowment across the UAE.
Community support
Awqaf Abu Dhabi said the campaign reflects national values of shared responsibility and community solidarity. The authority encouraged continued participation from residents and organisations to support healthcare needs and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable community.
