Each rest area is designed to minimize sunlight impact and provide comfort. They include air conditioning, snack vending machines, water dispensers, mobile phone charging stations, and parking spaces for motorcycles. Each area can accommodate up to 10 people, depending on its location.

Road safety and rider comfort

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the RTA, stated, “RTA is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for delivery drivers. This initiative aims to enhance traffic safety for all road users and achieve the targeted indicators of the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy with its ‘Zero Fatalities’ vision to rank Dubai the best in the world in terms of traffic safety.”

Al Tayer also mentioned, “The construction of rest areas aligns with the significant growth in the delivery sector in recent years, addressing the public’s increasing demand for goods. As of the end of last June, the number of companies providing delivery services by motorcycles in Dubai reached 2,535 with a total of 40,088 delivery bikes in operation.”

Delivery service excellence award

The RTA has also introduced the Delivery Service Excellence Award to encourage high standards in the delivery sector. Launched in 2022, the award aims to improve safety, promote adherence to traffic laws, and enhance service quality.

Categories and selection criteria

The award has two categories:

  • Top Delivery Companies: Recognizes the Top 3 companies in general delivery services and the Top 3 in smart platform services.
  • Top Delivery Drivers: Honors the Top 100 professional drivers.

Selection for the awards is based on strict criteria including safety, quality, health, and adherence to RTA standards. For companies, this involves adopting international best practices, using modern technology, and providing continuous training. For drivers, it includes a clean record, excellent performance, and commitment to service quality and safety.
