Etihad Rail has announced that its long-awaited passenger train service will begin operations in 2026, marking a significant step in the UAE’s national transport infrastructure.
Etihad Rail passenger service
The update was shared by Etihad Rail in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), confirming the timeline for launching the passenger rail network that will connect major cities and regions across the country.
During a meeting at Al Dhanna Palace, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region, was briefed on the project’s progress. Etihad Rail’s delegation, led by CEO Shadi Malak, presented the latest developments, with a focus on the upcoming passenger service.
Strategic infrastructure project
In its social media post, Etihad Rail stated: “The project stands as one of the country’s largest strategic transportation projects, reflecting His Highness’s ongoing commitment to monitoring national projects and his continued support for infrastructure development initiatives across the UAE.”
The passenger service is expected to provide a fast and sustainable alternative to road travel, improving connectivity between key urban hubs.
National network expansion
Etihad Rail, established under Federal Law No. 2, is responsible for the development, construction, and operation of the UAE’s national railway network, including both freight and passenger lines.
The 2026 launch of the passenger train service is a major milestone in the ongoing expansion of the country’s transport network.
