A new high-speed train project connecting Abu Dhabi and Dubai was officially announced, with the blessing of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the attendance of Crown Princes H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Etihad Rail

The project, spearheaded by Etihad Rail, promises to revolutionize travel between the two cities, slashing travel time to just 30 minutes. With speeds reaching up to 350 km/h, the train will enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth by improving access to key sectors like logistics and tourism.

It is expected to contribute Dhs 145 billion to the UAE’s GDP over the next 50 years.

Both Crown Princes highlighted the project’s alignment with the UAE’s broader vision of sustainability, innovation, and economic diversification. H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed emphasized the initiative’s role in advancing national infrastructure and reinforcing the UAE’s global competitiveness.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum described the train as a “game-changer” that would set new global standards for transport, while strengthening the UAE’s position as a leader in technological innovation.

Etihad Rail will oversee the development of the project, which will link strategic destinations and tourist attractions along its route. The development will play a key role in advancing the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 strategy, contributing to a more sustainable transport system.

Four new train stations

In addition to the high-speed train, the ceremony also marked the unveiling of the UAE’s first passenger train fleet. The fleet, designed for speeds of up to 200 km/h, will offer safe, efficient travel between major cities.

The introduction of four new rail stations — located in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah—will further integrate the UAE’s transport network, connecting with metro and bus services to create a seamless travel experience for citizens, residents, and tourists alike.

The project reflects the UAE’s ongoing commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and fostering national unity through advanced transportation solutions.
