Dubai Airports has revealed a new design for the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower at Dubai International Airport (DXB), incorporating the colours of the UAE flag into one of the airport’s most recognisable landmarks.
The updated tower design was unveiled during a ceremonial event held on the airport’s airside, attended by senior leaders from Dubai Airports, operational teams and oneDXB partners. The event also featured a Dubai Police parade.
Landmark redesign
The ATC tower now prominently displays the UAE flag colours and is visible to passengers arriving in and departing from Dubai.
Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, said: “The ATC tower is one of the most important and symbolic structures at DXB. It’s where thousands of critical decisions are made every day, helping to keep aircraft, guests and operations moving safely and efficiently through Dubai. Aviation is a fundamental pillar of the UAE’s economy, and we are committed to the continuous development of this great nation. By bringing the colours of the UAE flag to this iconic landmark, we are celebrating the ambition of the nation we serve, while recognising the extraordinary teams and partners who ensure DXB is always Flying the Flag, Connecting the World.”
Key aviation hub
Dubai International has grown from a single-runway airport in 1960 into the world’s busiest airport for international passengers.
Standing 89 metres tall, the ATC tower has been a central part of airport operations since the expansion of DXB in 2000. The facility supports the coordination of aircraft arrivals, departures and ground movements through collaboration between air traffic controllers, airlines, ground handlers and safety teams.
Tower operations
The tower’s distinctive design includes a buttressed central column and curved wings. Its multi-level control centre houses operations managed by Dubai Air Navigation Services, which oversees air traffic movements at the airport.
Dubai Airports said the redesign highlights the role of aviation in the UAE while recognising the teams involved in the daily operation of DXB.
