UAE travellers will soon have a new short-haul beach destination, with Etihad Airways set to launch year-round flights from Abu Dhabi to Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast from 4 October 2026.
The new service will connect Zayed International Airport with Red Sea International Airport, with a flight time of just over three hours.
Abu Dhabi to Red Sea flights
The route will initially operate once a week from October 4, increasing to twice weekly from October 25.
Etihad will operate the route using an Airbus A320, with eight Business Class seats and 150 Economy seats.
For UAE residents, the route offers direct access to Saudi Arabia’s developing Red Sea tourism destination without a long-haul flight.
What can UAE travellers expect?
The Red Sea coast in north-western Saudi Arabia is known for its islands, coral reefs, beaches and marine life. The destination also combines coastal resorts with nearby desert landscapes, mountains and lava fields.
Unlike a conventional resort city, the developments along the coast are spread across the area, with activities including diving and sailing alongside beach stays.
Red Sea International Airport is located within the destination, meaning travellers can reach their resort without a lengthy transfer from another major city.
Can travellers connect from other countries?
Yes. Etihad says passengers from across its network, including the Gulf and Indian subcontinent, will be able to reach the Red Sea with a single connection in Abu Dhabi.
Travellers can also combine the trip with a stay in Abu Dhabi through Etihad’s Abu Dhabi Stopover programme before continuing to Saudi Arabia.
The Red Sea becomes Etihad’s sixth destination in Saudi Arabia, joining Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Medina and Al Qassim.
Etihad CEO Antonoaldo Neves said: “The kind of holiday people normally take a long-haul flight for – islands, reefs and relaxation – is now a short flight from Abu Dhabi and a single connection from anywhere across our network.”
