Thailand’s Lanta Archipelago National Park has been named among the featured destinations in the 2025 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories, reflecting growing international recognition of the country’s focus on sustainable tourism.
Global recognition
The announcement was made at the Green Destinations Global Conference 2025, held in Montpellier, France. The Tourism Authority of Thailand confirmed that the Krabi-based national park was selected for its work in marine conservation and community involvement.
Lanta Archipelago National Park was recognised for its role in the Krabi Prototype initiative, a programme centred on protecting coastal and marine ecosystems.
The project promotes hands-on environmental action and encourages local communities and visitors to take part in conservation activities aimed at preserving marine biodiversity and reducing environmental impact.
The initiative brings together residents, park authorities and tourists, shifting the focus from traditional sightseeing to responsible travel. By involving local communities, the programme aims to ensure tourism activity supports long-term environmental protection rather than placing pressure on natural resources.
Other Thai sites
Nine other destinations from Thailand were also included in the 2025 Top 100 Stories list. These are Royal Park Rajapruek in Chiang Mai, Kui Buri National Park in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Uthai Thani Old Town, Mu Ko Chang National Park in Trat, Tha Chai Community in Si Satchanalai, Chak Ngaew Ancient Chinese Market in Chon Buri, Chiang Khan in Loei, Nan Old Town, and Na Kluea Old Town in Chon Buri.
Sustainable tourism focus
The selected destinations will be promoted through the Green Destinations international network. Officials said the recognition aligns with Thailand’s broader sustainability goals, which encourage environmentally responsible tourism while supporting local culture and livelihoods.
The inclusion of multiple sites in the 2025 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories highlights Thailand’s ongoing efforts to balance tourism growth with environmental care and community participation.
