Dubai Municipality has announced the completion of a major development project on the Dubai Creek wharf on the Deira side.

The two-kilometre stretch, delivered at a cost of Dhs 112 million, aims to strengthen the quay’s infrastructure and enhance its appeal for both commercial and tourism activities.

This development aligns with Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33 and is part of ongoing efforts to preserve the historical significance of Dubai Creek, a key maritime corridor in the emirate.

Key infrastructure improvements

As part of the upgrades, the retaining wall on the wharf was raised to a height of 8.3 metres. The quay was also equipped with 200 anchors and 500 ship berths, enhancing both the safety and efficiency of maritime operations. The improvements are expected to support growing trade volumes and accommodate various marine activities.

Work on both sides of the creek

His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, highlighted the project’s strategic importance. “The development of the Dubai Creek wharf on the Deira side is a strategic infrastructure milestone that supports the vision of Dubai’s leadership and the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. This project reinforces the creek’s role as one of the emirate’s most vital trade and tourism assets,” he said.

He also pointed out that work is already underway on the Bur Dubai side, which spans 2.3 kilometres. “Once completed, the works will provide enhanced safety and efficiency for maritime navigation across both sides of the creek,” he added.

Enhancements to the creek’s infrastructure

The development included dredging 17,500 cubic metres from the creek bed and placing 24,000 cubic metres of protective rock to improve the durability of the infrastructure. The quay’s rear yard was also fitted with a 1,200-metre rainwater drainage network. In total, more than 620,000 man-hours were invested in the project.

A space for recreation

Beyond its commercial improvements, the project also included the creation of a new public promenade along the waterfront. The quay’s total area has expanded to 320,000 square feet, with cargo handling zones and leisure spaces for visitors to enjoy.

The project, which began in February 2024, is a significant step in reinforcing Dubai Creek’s status as a vital historical, commercial, and tourist destination.
