In a major step to enhance Dubai’s road network, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract for a new bridge that will provide direct access from Bur Dubai to Dubai Islands.
This initiative is part of a broader plan to boost the city’s infrastructure, improve traffic, and accommodate growing urban and demographic needs.
Key Features of the Project
The new bridge will span 1,425 meters across Dubai Creek, offering four lanes in each direction. The project, valued at Dhs 786 million, is expected to significantly ease traffic flow, supporting the movement of residents and visitors alike.
The bridge will be raised 18.5 meters above the creek, allowing vessels to pass through a 75-meter-wide navigational channel.
Pedestrian and Cyclist Access
In addition to vehicle lanes, the bridge will include dedicated pedestrian and cycling tracks, complete with elevators to ensure easy access for everyone.
The project will also extend surface roads for 2,000 meters, linking the bridge to existing routes on both sides of Dubai Islands and Bur Dubai.
Part of a Larger Vision
This project is the latest phase of the Dubai Islands development, following a similar project completed in 2020. The new bridge will be part of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development, a major road improvement effort across Deira and Bur Dubai.
The overall project will reduce travel times dramatically—cutting a 104-minute journey down to just 16 minutes—while benefiting over one million people and saving an estimated Dhs 45 billion in the next two decades.
A Strategic Move for Dubai’s Future
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General of the RTA, emphasized that this project will greatly improve connectivity between key areas of the city and will serve as a critical piece of the ongoing Al Shindagha Corridor development. This initiative marks an important milestone in Dubai’s commitment to future-proofing its infrastructure.
