Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed traffic improvements at over 50 locations across the city in 2024, cutting travel times by up to 60%. These changes were part of a broader effort to improve road efficiency, ease congestion, and boost safety in line with Dubai’s population growth and urban expansion.
Key road improvements
Key improvements included the widening of major roads like Beirut Street, upgrades to the Al Khawaneej Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street intersection, and lane expansions from Al Rebat Street to Business Bay Crossing. These changes have helped to increase road capacity by 20%, speeding up vehicle movement and reducing delays.
“By enhancing key areas, we’ve significantly improved traffic flow and reduced travel times,” said Hussain Al Banna, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency. “These upgrades support our commitment to a smarter, more efficient transportation system in Dubai.”
A key highlight was the extension of Exit 55 leading to Al Rebat Street, increasing lanes and cutting travel time from 10 minutes to just 4 minutes — a 60% improvement. Additionally, improvements near schools, including widening roads and creating extra parking, led to a 20% improvement in peak-hour traffic flow.
Looking ahead, RTA plans over 75 additional improvements in 2025, aiming to further enhance traffic management across the city and position Dubai as a global leader in urban mobility.
