After enjoying a four-day break for Eid Al Adha, many UAE residents are now looking ahead to the next public holidays on the national calendar.
According to UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, issued in May, there are three public holidays still remaining in 2025 for both public and private sector workers. While exact dates are subject to moon sightings for Islamic occasions, the expected schedule gives a general guide for planning.
Islamic New Year in June
The next holiday is expected on Thursday, June 26, to mark the Islamic New Year. A one-day break will be given on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic Hijri calendar.
The UAE moon-sighting committee will confirm the exact date by observing the crescent moon, a standard practice for determining Islamic calendar events.
Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday
The second holiday is scheduled for Friday, September 5, to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The date corresponds to the 12th of Rabi Al Awwal, but confirmation will also depend on the moon-sighting committee’s announcement closer to the date.
This will likely provide another one-day break for residents.
National Day in December
The final official public holiday of the year will be UAE National Day, celebrated on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 2–3. This two-day break will mark the country’s 53rd National Day and is expected to give residents a mid-week pause.
All dates for Islamic holidays remain provisional until officially announced by UAE authorities. The government typically provides confirmation closer to each occasion based on religious observations.
