As Eid Al-Adha approaches, many UAE residents are showing a growing interest in short-haul travel to nearby Gulf destinations, according to new data from global travel platform Skyscanner.
Top destinations this Eid
Based on travel searches made between January and April, Dubai ranked as the most searched-for destination for trips scheduled between June 5 and 9.
Other top destinations included Jeddah, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and Muscat. The week of April 21 recorded the highest surge in interest, with a 48% increase in week-on-week searches for these destinations.
Preference for short breaks
Travel patterns continue to show a preference for quick getaways, especially among families balancing school and work commitments.
In April, 80% of travel search activity in the UAE focused on trips lasting a week or less. This reflects a similar trend from Eid in 2024, when 96% of bookings to GCC destinations were for stays under seven days.
The timing of Eid Al-Adha, which falls shortly before the start of school summer holidays, appears to be a key factor influencing these choices. Families are opting for nearby destinations that offer the convenience of minimal planning and reduced travel time.
Dubai among global leaders
Dubai’s appeal also extends beyond the region. In April 2025, the city ranked third globally for hotel bookings, behind Mumbai and London. So far in May, it holds the fourth spot, with Mumbai, Tokyo, and London ahead, and Osaka completing the top five.
Ayoub El Mamoun, Travel Expert at Skyscanner, said: “With summer holidays not yet in full swing and schools still in session, we’re seeing UAE residents favour quick getaways to nearby destinations for Eid Al-Adha. Short-haul options across the GCC offer a great way for families and friends to enjoy the long weekend without the planning and time commitment of a long-haul trip.”
