The UAE recorded strong growth in its tourism sector in 2025, with the number of hotel guests reaching around 29.1 million, an increase of 5.2 percent compared to the previous year. Hotel guest nights exceeded 99.4 million, marking a year-on-year rise of 6 percent.

The figures were shared by Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Emirates Tourism Council, during his participation in the International Tourism Fair, FITUR Madrid 2026, held from January 21 to 25 at IFEMA in Spain, WAM reported.

Hotel revenues

Reviewing tourism performance from January to November 2025, Al Marri said hotel revenues rose to approximately Dhs44.4 billion, reflecting growth of 8.8 percent compared to the same period in 2024. The increase was driven by a higher average daily rate.

He said the tourism sector remains a key contributor to the national economy and a central pillar of sustainable development.

Al Marri said the UAE and Spain enjoy strong and strategic economic relations, supported by growing cooperation in tourism, investment and trade. He noted that tourism plays an important role in strengthening bilateral relations, creating opportunities for joint investment and enhancing cultural exchange.

Global tourism role

Al Marri said the UAE has continued to strengthen its position as a global tourism destination, supported by modern infrastructure, growth-oriented policies and innovative initiatives that have enhanced competitiveness at regional and international levels.

He highlighted several milestones achieved in 2025, including the election of Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais as Secretary-General of UN Tourism for the 2026 to 2029 term. Masfout was named Best Tourism Village in the World for 2025, while Al Ain was designated Capital of Arab Tourism for 2026 after being selected as Gulf Tourism Capital for 2025.

Al Marri said FITUR Madrid serves as a key platform for exchanging expertise on sustainable tourism and developing solutions to support long-term economic and social development.

During visits to the Abu Dhabi and Dubai pavilions, he highlighted the competitiveness of UAE tourism products and services and stressed the importance of increasing the presence of national tourism companies at major international exhibitions and events.
