The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has officially announced the dates for the 2025 Eid Al Fitr holidays for private sector employees.
Employees will enjoy a break from Sunday, March 30, until Tuesday, April 1, marking the joyous occasion of Eid Al Fitr.
Shawwal moon sighting
The exact duration of the holiday could vary, depending on the sighting of the Shawwal moon. Since Islamic months can last either 29 or 30 days, the dates for Eid are contingent on the moon’s visibility.
The UAE’s Moon Sighting Committee will begin its observations on March 29. If the crescent moon is spotted that evening, Eid celebrations will begin on March 30, resulting in a four-day weekend from Saturday to Tuesday.
However, if the moon is not visible and Ramadan extends to a full 30 days, the first day of Shawwal will fall on March 31. In this case, Eid holidays will be observed from March 31 to April 2, offering residents an extended five-day break that stretches from Saturday to Wednesday.
Astronomical predictions from the Dubai Astronomy Group suggest that Ramadan is likely to complete its 30 days, which would lead to a five-day holiday for employees.
In a move to ensure equality, the UAE government has introduced a unified holiday policy for both public and private sector employees.
This policy guarantees that all workers across the country receive equal time off for major holidays, fostering fairness and consistency.
So, whether it’s a four-day or five-day holiday, UAE residents can look forward to an extended break, celebrating Eid with family, friends, and loved ones.
