Dubai has launched a new sustainability-focused initiative aimed at boosting education and workforce development, in partnership with Schneider Electric.
The project includes a Dhs100 million investment and the opening of the company’s new regional headquarters in Dubai Silicon Oasis.
Focus on youth upskilling
The initiative was unveiled by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE Olympic Committee, who emphasised Dubai’s growing role in the global digital economy.
“Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a global hub for innovation, sustainability, and the digital economy by fostering an ecosystem where the world’s leading companies can flourish and actively contribute to our national growth,” he said.
The five-year initiative will support education programmes, modernise university labs, and promote hands-on training in energy and automation technologies. Schneider Electric aims to create opportunities for students and graduates through mentorships, applied research, and strategic partnerships.
Smart office inaugurated
The announcement coincided with the official opening of Schneider Electric’s new 10,000 sqm smart headquarters, known as The NEST.
Located in Dubai Silicon Oasis, the facility is part of the company’s Global Impact Buildings programme and is designed to serve as a regional innovation hub.
His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), said: “The inauguration of Schneider Electric’s new regional headquarters at Dubai Silicon Oasis marks a significant milestone in our longstanding partnership since 2008. It reflects the strength of Dubai’s innovation ecosystem.”
Public-private partnerships
Dr. Al Zarooni added that DIEZ is working with Schneider Electric to build an integrated training system that supports national talent and strengthens collaboration between sectors. “This new initiative exemplifies the vital role of the private sector as an active partner in advancing a culture of research and development,” he said.
Amel Chadli, President of Gulf Cluster, Schneider Electric, said: “Our commitment towards upskilling UAE youth closely aligns with the nation’s vision to build a competitive, knowledge-based economy. Schneider Electric’s support extends beyond providing innovative, integrated solutions that empower businesses and communities.”
Support for local talent
As part of its youth engagement efforts, Schneider Electric is also continuing programmes like Tamayuz, which supports Emirati graduates, and FEM in STEM, focused on women in engineering and tech. The company also launched the UAE edition of NextGen Go Green at COP28 to encourage sustainable innovation among university students.
The education and training drive aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to position the city among the world’s top three urban economies over the next decade.
