Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new round of sidewalk maintenance and rehabilitation works across the emirate, covering a total area of 90,000 square metres.
The initiative, part of RTA’s preventive maintenance plans for 2026, is aimed at enhancing the quality and performance of sidewalks throughout Dubai while supporting long-term infrastructure sustainability.
The maintenance efforts will focus on various areas, including residential, commercial, tourist, and coastal zones. This follows a similar initiative in 2025, when RTA rehabilitated approximately 88,000 square metres of sidewalk across different parts of the emirate.
Abdulla Ali Lootah, Director of Roads and Facilities Maintenance at RTA, emphasized the importance of sidewalk upkeep in preserving Dubai’s urban landscape and ensuring pedestrian safety. “Sidewalks maintenance forms an integral part of RTA’s strategy to preserve road furniture, maintain high standards of quality and safety, extend service life, and strengthen long-term sustainability,” he said.
Key areas for maintenance
The scheduled maintenance will cover several prominent areas, including Al Nahda 2, Al Baraha, Al Muhaisnah 1, 2, and 3, Jumeirah 2, and Al Safa 2, among others. The works will involve the rehabilitation of pedestrian pavements, intersections, and shared sidewalks, which serve both pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, repairs will address issues caused by subsidence, erosion, breakage, and environmental wear.
Lootah highlighted the use of advanced technologies in monitoring and managing the condition of infrastructure, ensuring that maintenance is carried out using the latest global practices. This approach not only enhances safety for pedestrians but also supports Dubai’s ongoing urban development.
During the maintenance period, RTA will implement safety measures to ensure the public can move around safely. The authority is committed to minimizing disruptions and maintaining smooth pedestrian flow while the rehabilitation works are in progress.
The maintenance program is part of RTA’s broader efforts to enhance the quality of life in Dubai by providing high-quality infrastructure that supports sustainable mobility for all road users.
