RTA distributes meals to delivery riders at 23 rest areas

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has distributed meals to delivery riders at 23 temporary rest areas located at bus and metro stations across the emirate.

The meals were provided by the UAE Food Bank in collaboration with Deliveroo as part of an initiative recognising the role of delivery riders in supporting Dubai’s economy and serving the community.

Rider support

The meals were distributed daily at rest areas serving large numbers of delivery riders. Locations included Gold Souq, Al Satwa, Al Jafiliya, Al Qusais and Al Karama bus stations, as well as Al Rashidiya, Al Furjan, DMCC, BurJuman, Ibn Battuta and e& metro stations.

Ahmed Mahboub, CEO of the Licensing Agency at RTA, said the initiative supports national efforts to protect delivery riders and aligns with the UAE’s Midday Break initiative.

The Midday Break runs from June 15 to September 15 and prohibits work under direct sunlight and in open areas from 12:30pm to 3pm during the summer, in line with Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation directives.

Food Bank role

Manal Obaid bin Yaroof, Head of the Executive Team at the UAE Food Bank, said the initiative recognises workers’ contribution to the economic and social fabric while supporting the organisation’s humanitarian work and efforts to reduce food waste.

Bin Yaroof said: “At the UAE Food Bank, we are committed to supporting all humanitarian initiatives that embody noble objectives and reflect the values of Emirati society.”
