The 2025 edition of Relay for Life (RFL) launched on Saturday at the American University of Sharjah, uniting the community in an inspiring 24-hour walkathon packed with workshops and activities to raise cancer awareness and foster solidarity.
‘Worth Living’
Organised by Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) under the unifying theme “Worth Living,” the event offered 24 diverse workshops tailored for both adults and children, blending education, creativity, and connection to support the fight against cancer.
Wellness and empowerment for adults
Following the event’s powerful opening ceremony, adults were invited to participate in workshops focused on cancer prevention, early detection, and holistic health approaches. Sessions such as yoga, sound healing, and wellness seminars encouraged self-care while offering practical tools for managing physical and emotional health.
These activities emphasised the crucial role of well-being in both cancer recovery and prevention, creating a safe and supportive space for participants to engage and learn.
Creativity and joy for children
In the vibrant kids’ zones, young participants found a range of activities designed to educate and entertain. From storytelling and arts and crafts to glitter tattoos and nail art, the workshops fostered empathy and community values while providing fun and hands-on learning opportunities.
The play area was alive with energy, featuring bouncy castles, tug-of-war games, and foosball competitions, ensuring an engaging experience for children of all ages.
Shared moments of connection and purpose
Adding to the spirit of unity, the main stage hosted talent showcases, interactive Q&A sessions, and live performances that captivated the audience and encouraged participation.
Activation zones featured creative workshops such as mosaic jar crafting and canvas painting, while food stalls offering a variety of cuisines added to the lively, communal atmosphere.
