Motorists face Dhs50,000 fine for violating traffic rules in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Police have warned drivers against jumping red traffic signals within the emirate, as this offense may result in Dhs51,000 hefty traffic fine and vehicle confiscation.

Referring to Law No.5 of 2020, Abu Dhabi Police stated that vehicles may be impounded if drivers jump red lights.

According to Abu Dhabi Police, Law No.5 for 2020 outlines that drivers who run red lights will face a penalty of Dhs1,000 and 12 traffic black points, with their vehicle impounded for 30 days.

To regain possession of the vehicle, the motorist must pay Dh50,000 and forfeit driver’s license for six months, according to the statement.

If the fine for releasing the impounded vehicle is not paid in full within three months, the vehicle will be held in custody.

Authorities have also cautioned that failure to pay the fees for release could result in the vehicle being auctioned off.
