Minimum top-up amount for Nol card

Starting on August 17, 2024 Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will require a minimum top-up of Dhs50 instead of Dhs20 at Metro ticket offices when adding money to your Nol card. This new rule applies only to in-person top-ups at Metro station ticketing offices. If you want to add a smaller amount, you can use one of the various online options available.

The RTA wrote on X platform: ““The minimum card recharge limit will increase to Dhs50 at ticket offices in metro stations, starting from August 17, 2024. Make your journeys smoother on board [public transportation] with our digital services. Recharge your Nol card from anywhere easily and with the balance you want through the Authority’s website, Nol payment application, or [RTA] application, to ensure your convenience and save your time.”

Earlier, from mid-January commuters were ensuring a minimum balance of Dhs20 to avail themselves of the convenience of Dubai’s public transport system, including the Dubai Metro, buses, trams, and waterbuses.

The Nol card, a widely used prepaid smart card, serves as a versatile payment method for various services in Dubai.

Apart from covering the cost of public transportation, including round trips on the Metro transit network with a minimum balance of Dhs15, the Nol card can be used to pay for taxi fares, parking, entrance fees to Dubai public parks, the Etihad Museum, and at over 2,000 shops, restaurants, and stores across the city. It is always advisable to check your Nol card balance to avoid any issues.

To facilitate the top-up process, commuters can conveniently add credit to their Nol cards at any RTA ticket vending machines, solar top-up machines, or through the Nol Pay app for virtual cards. This adjustment in the minimum top-up amount aims to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of the Nol card system, ensuring continued ease of access to Dubai’s comprehensive public services.
