Hala, Dubai’s popular e-hailing taxi service, has launched Hala EV, a new sustainability initiative designed to transform urban transportation.

As part of this initiative, the company is adding four new electric vehicle (EV) models — BYD, Skywell, GAC Emkoo, and Tesla — into its fleet. This will bring the total number of electric taxis in its fleet to nearly 500.

Sustainable transport solutions in Dubai

This move is part of Hala’s larger plan to promote sustainable transport solutions in Dubai, supporting the city’s goal of having all taxis be hybrid or hydrogen-powered by 2027.

Currently, 90% of Hala’s fleet of 13,000 taxis already runs on hybrid power. With the addition of the EVs, Hala is taking another step towards its ambition of having a fully eco-friendly fleet.

No extra cost

Starting this month, residents and visitors can access Hala EV taxis in select high-demand areas like Dubai Marina, JLT, Palm Jumeirah, and Media City. Customers can easily book these vehicles through the Careem app, choosing the Hala EV option at no extra charge.

Khaled Nuseibeh, CEO of Hala, commented: “The launch of the Hala EV initiative reinforces our role as a key player in Dubai’s sustainability vision while continuing to provide a seamless and reliable transport solution for our customers. Every ride in a Hala EV is a step towards a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable city.”

He added: “Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond simply adding electric vehicles to our fleet—we see Hala EV as a catalyst for a more environmentally conscious e-hail industry, and we intend to scale this initiative as part of our long-term commitment to sustainability.”

Hala currently operates a fleet of 13,000 cars and supports over 24,000 captains, contributing to Dubai’s evolving mobility landscape.
