Etihad adds new A321LR aircraft on Kolkata route

Etihad Airways has introduced its new Airbus A321LR aircraft on all flights between Abu Dhabi and Kolkata, aiming to improve passenger experience on the high-demand India route.

The inaugural flight, EY222, arrived at Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Tuesday evening. The airline confirmed that all eight weekly return flights between Abu Dhabi and Kolkata will now be operated using the upgraded A321LR.

Kolkata is one of Etihad’s 11 destinations in India, where the airline operates 183 flights weekly. According to the airline, over 135,000 passengers travel annually between Kolkata and Abu Dhabi.

Demand from multiple sectors

The airline said the move responds to rising travel demand among business travellers, students, and families. Increased investment in IT and financial services in West Bengal has also contributed to stronger corporate travel demand.

“India is an important market for Etihad and we’re incredibly proud to be in Kolkata to welcome our newest aircraft, the A321LR, on its inaugural flight to India,” said Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways.

Upgraded passenger experience

The A321LR features two enclosed First Suites, 14 lie-flat Business seats with direct aisle access, and 144 Economy seats with 4K screens. All seats are equipped with Bluetooth connectivity and USB charging ports. High-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the aircraft.

Etihad said the new aircraft delivers a consistent experience with its long-haul services, bringing more comfort and connectivity to shorter regional routes.

The A321LR is part of a fleet expansion plan, with 30 of the aircraft expected to join Etihad. Two have already been delivered as of August this year.
