Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in partnership with Keolis–MHI, has completed a citywide upgrade of wayfinding signage across all Dubai Metro stations.
The move aims to improve navigation for daily commuters on both the Metro and Tram networks.
Clearer station navigation
The project, led by RTA’s Rail Agency, involved installing and replacing around 9,000 signs across stations on both the Red and Green Lines. According to the RTA, the upgrade took approximately 11,000 work hours to complete.
“The Rail Agency’s technical teams implemented a comprehensive plan to modernise wayfinding signage across all stations on the Red and Green lines. The plan aimed to make commuting easier and more seamless by facilitating passenger movement within stations and helping them reach their destinations more quickly,” said Hassan Al Mutawa, Director of Rail Operations at RTA’s Rail Agency.
Improved visibility and flow
The updated signage includes brighter exit signs marked with yellow boxes, clearer platform directions, and floor stickers to guide passengers to the correct train lines. These changes are intended to reduce confusion and improve overall passenger flow within stations.
“The project included upgrading entry and exit signage and installing new signs at station entrances and exits, with exit signs now highlighted in bright yellow boxes to improve visibility. It also introduced clearer platform directional indicators and floor stickers to guide passengers towards the correct train lines,” Al Mutawa explained.
Behaviour and cabin signs
To support positive behaviour on public transport, new stickers displaying etiquette messages have been placed throughout stations and waiting areas.
“Recognising the importance of etiquette and public behaviour, various behavioural messages were introduced through stickers displayed across stations and waiting areas. These messages encourage passengers to observe proper etiquette when using public transport,” Al Mutawa added.
New signage was also introduced for the Women and Children Cabin and Gold Class Cabin. The previous floor markings were replaced with more visible pink and gold boards to help reduce unauthorised use of these areas.
RTA confirmed that all visual updates were aligned with its digital and audio communication systems, including mobile apps, train announcements, and social media platforms.
