Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the construction of 40 air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders across key locations in the city.

This initiative aims to enhance road safety, improve the quality of life, and provide essential services and comfort for riders while they wait for new orders. It also helps reduce road accidents and encourages riders to comply with traffic laws and regulations.

Focus on delivery riders safety

The new rest areas offer air-conditioned seating for up to 10 riders, depending on the location, and designated motorcycle parking nearby.

Designed to minimize sun exposure and ensure effective insulation without blocking visibility, these spaces provide a comfortable environment for delivery riders. Locations were carefully chosen based on operational data, demand for delivery services, and coordination with delivery companies, placing rest areas in high-traffic areas such as Hessa Street, Barsha Heights, Dubai Marina, and more.

RTA’s commitment to road safety

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, emphasized that the implementation of these rest areas highlights RTA’s commitment to ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for delivery riders, especially given the rapid growth of the sector. This initiative also aligns with Dubai’s Traffic Safety Strategy, which aims for Zero Fatalities, positioning the emirate as a leader in global road safety.

Supporting the delivery sector

The RTA also launched the Delivery Service Excellence Award to encourage high service standards within the sector. The award recognizes the top companies, riders, and partners based on safety, customer service, and adherence to RTA regulations. In response to growing demand, the number of winners in the Outstanding Rider category has been increased to 200. This initiative ensures the continuous growth of the delivery sector in a secure and sustainable environment.
