BITS Pilani Dubai Campus (BPDC) has introduced a new Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) programme in Robotics and Industrial Automation, marking the first time this specialised course is offered across any BITS Pilani campus.
The programme aims to equip students with skills needed in the growing field of intelligent automation, responding to increasing demand in the UAE and GCC markets driven by smart city development and AI advancements.
Programme details
The curriculum is developed jointly by the Departments of Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Science, blending theoretical knowledge with practical lab sessions.
Students will study core subjects like Robot Dynamics, AI for Robotics, Industrial Automation, and Embedded Systems. They will gain hands-on experience with industry-standard tools such as Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), SCADA, and CAD platforms.
Industry outlook
The global robotics market, valued at USD 62.75 billion in 2019, is expected to nearly triple by 2027. The UAE’s focus on sectors like logistics, manufacturing, energy, and healthcare creates strong job prospects for graduates. Potential careers include robotics engineer, automation specialist, controls engineer, and software developer. BPDC also highlights opportunities with major companies like Siemens, Honeywell, DEWA, and Emirates Airlines.
Prof. Souri Banerjee, Director of BPDC, said, “Robotics is no longer science fiction. It’s the future of every industry—from manufacturing and healthcare to logistics, agriculture, and even space exploration. With this programme, we are preparing our students to be leaders in this transformation, empowering them with advanced technical skills and the ability to innovate.”
Ms. Nahid Afshan, Head of Admissions, added, “The introduction of this programme reflects our ongoing commitment to offering cutting-edge, industry-relevant education. With the world rapidly embracing automation, this is an exciting opportunity for students to gain a competitive edge in a high-growth field.”
Admissions are now open for students with strong backgrounds in Physics and Mathematics. BPDC’s international setting and modern facilities aim to provide a comprehensive education, with options for minors in related fields like Data Science and Entrepreneurship.
This new programme positions BPDC as a leader in robotics education within the region, aligning with market demands and preparing graduates for evolving industrial landscapes.
