Ari Arabia launches direct flights from Sharjah to Maldives

In a new step that further enhances Sharjah’s position on the international travel map and strengthens its presence in the global travel and tourism sectors, Sharjah Airport and Air Arabia celebrated the launch of the first direct flight from Sharjah to Maldives, starting from October 27, 2024.

Mr. Hassaan Waheed, Deputy Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the UAE, attended the inaugural ceremony of the first flight, alongside a delegation of officials and directors from SAA and Air Arabia.

Sharjah Airport to Velana International Airport

The airline will operate daily flights between Sharjah Airport and Velana International Airport in Malé, Maldives, using Airbus A320 aircraft.

His Excellency Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), stated: “Sharjah Airport continues to expand its presence on the international travel map, and we are committed to adding new direct destinations for airlines operating through the airport.

“The launch of the first direct flights from Sharjah to the Maldives is another milestone added to the previous destinations announced by Air Arabia this year. This reaffirms our deep commitment to expanding our international network and providing passengers with a unique travel experience and outstanding services.”

He added that the Maldives is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations for passengers worldwide, which motivates us to further intensify our efforts to provide the best services for passengers expected to travel through Sharjah Airport on their direct flights to these beautiful islands.

The launch of this new route also reflects Sharjah Airport’s role as a key player in enhancing the aviation sector in the region. Moreover, the new route contributes to strengthening economic and tourism ties between the UAE and the Maldives, opening new horizons for economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.
