About Sharjah Safari Park
Inaugurated on February 17, 2022, by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, the Sharjah Safari is an exciting new attraction that beckons adventure enthusiasts. Nestled in a serene natural setting, Sharjah Safari offers a rare chance for tourists to observe Africa’s indigenous wildlife. Here, creatures that call Africa home roam freely, recreating their natural habitats. The park boasts over 120 animal species, encompassing up to 50,000 birds, reptiles, and mammals, including lions, elephants, giraffes, rhinoceroses, crocodiles, deer, bulls, and other endangered animals.
Featuring twelve distinct environments inspired by various African regions, Sharjah Safari encapsulates the continent’s diverse landscapes and the creatures that inhabit them. The initial area, “To Africa,” invites visitors on a remarkable walking journey to explore wildlife endemic to islands and archipelagos along Africa’s eastern Indian Ocean coast. The Sahel, the second region, mirrors deserts, pastures, and a range of wildlife. Stretching from Mauritania’s Atlantic coast to the Red Sea and Eritrea, this transitional zone teems with wildlife between the Sahara Desert in the north and the southern Savannah.
The third zone, the Savannah, blankets eastern and southern Africa from the northern coastline to the Kalahari desert in the southwest. This tropical grassland covers half of the continent and teems with unparalleled biodiversity. Meanwhile, the Serengeti, the fourth sector, commemorates the world’s largest annual animal migration. Herbivores gather in vast numbers to traverse the Serengeti plains, attracting predators and scavengers, including Nile crocodiles lurking in the Mara River, a perilous obstacle for migratory herbivores.
Nkorongoro, the fifth segment, is a unique ecosystem situated within a dormant crater, housing Africa’s renowned species. On the other hand, the sixth area, Moremi, draws inspiration from the canyons and valleys of southwest Africa, molded by centuries of monsoon rains. Within these dry, sandy riverbeds lie life-sustaining aquifers that endure the arid season.
