Union Coop, CoTopia extend Ramadan food preservation partnership

Union Coop has renewed its partnership with CoTopia Social Responsibility Foundation to continue a Ramadan-focused initiative aimed at reducing food waste and promoting food preservation across the UAE.

The two entities signed a new Memorandum of Understanding to support the eighth edition of the “Your breakfast, their Suhoor” initiative, which will be implemented during Ramadan 2026. The programme marks eight consecutive years of collaboration between Union Coop and CoTopia.

The MoU was signed at Union Coop’s head office at Warqa City Mall by Mohamed Al Hashemi, CEO of Union Coop, and Yousif Al Obaidli, CEO of CoTopia Social Responsibility Foundation, in the presence of officials from both organisations.

Focus on food waste

Under the agreement, Union Coop will provide financial and in-kind support for the initiative. The programme aims to raise awareness about reducing food waste, encouraging food preservation, and reinforcing social responsibility and sustainability values during Ramadan.

The initiative also aligns with broader sustainability goals, including responsible consumption and community awareness.

The Ramadan campaign will include a range of awareness-driven activities, such as distributing specially designed food storage containers, launching media and awareness campaigns, engaging volunteers, and delivering educational content to different segments of society.

Children will be a key focus, with activities designed to encourage positive habits and environmental awareness from an early age.

Mohamed Al Hashemi said the agreement reflects Union Coop’s ongoing role in supporting community initiatives. He said, “This MoU embodies Union Coop’s commitment to supporting community initiatives with lasting impact. We are keen to build effective strategic partnerships that enhance positive values and social awareness, particularly during the Holy Month of Ramadan.”

He added that the partnership with CoTopia serves as a strong example of cooperation between the cooperative sector and social responsibility institutions, noting the practical outcomes achieved over the years.

Long-term collaboration

Al Hashemi also highlighted that the partnership has continued for more than eight years, contributing to initiatives focused on reducing food waste, promoting food preservation, and supporting sustainability practices within the community.

Yousif Al Obaidli thanked Union Coop for its continued support, saying the partnership reflects a shared commitment to long-term social impact. He noted that the “Your breakfast, their Suhoor” initiative has grown over the years into a platform for spreading community awareness and encouraging positive behaviour, supported by strategic partners led by Union Coop.
