Travellers in the UAE are showing growing interest in lesser-known international destinations for 2026, according to Skyscanner’s newly released Travel Trends Report 2026.
The report reveals a clear shift toward affordable and culturally rich locations that offer new experiences beyond traditional holiday hotspots. Skyscanner data shows that 61% of UAE travellers plan to take more overseas trips next year, while 54% expect to spend more per person compared to 2025.
Trending destinations for 2026
Among the destinations seeing the highest year-on-year search growth are Varna in Bulgaria and Bilbao in Spain, with travel interest rising by 344% and 167% respectively.
Varna, a coastal city on the Black Sea, is gaining attention for its mix of beaches and Roman ruins, supported by growing low-cost European flight connections.
Bilbao, known for its vibrant art scene and Basque cuisine, is also attracting UAE travellers looking to explore lesser-visited European cities.
Bhutan’s Paro, Switzerland’s Basel, and Krabi in Thailand are also seeing significant increases in demand. Basel, in particular, is benefitting from new direct flights from Dubai, offering easier access to its cultural attractions.
Other notable destinations on the rise include Beijing, Bengaluru, Milan, Vienna, and Kochi. These cities are gaining popularity due to improved flight options, favourable exchange rates, and a growing interest in alternative travel experiences.
Value-driven travel choices
UAE travellers continue to prioritise cost-effective travel. According to Skyscanner, 67% consider flight prices the most important factor when planning a trip, followed by accommodation costs (60%) and visa fees (49%).
In response to this demand, the report highlights the top destinations offering the best value for 2026 based on average flight price drops.
Topping the list is Davao in the Philippines, where average flight prices have decreased by 21%. Salalah in Oman follows closely with a 20% drop, making it a popular summer destination for its cooler climate and lush scenery.
Phuket, Manila, Zanzibar, and Manama also make the list, thanks to more affordable airfares and favourable exchange rates. Kuala Lumpur and Tbilisi round out the top ten value destinations, offering urban culture, nature escapes, and increasing connectivity from the UAE.
“As UAE travellers look to next year’s holiday choices, they now have more options to travel both domestically and internationally, benefitting from new routes and connections to experience new cultures and heritages at affordable prices,” the Skyscanner report noted.
With more destinations becoming accessible and budget-friendly, 2026 is shaping up to offer greater variety for UAE residents planning their next getaway.
