Archer Aviation plans to begin test flights of its electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft “Midnight” in the UAE before the end of 2025, a senior company official confirmed on the sidelines of the “Make it in the Emirates” forum.
Urban mobility focus
Dr. Talib Alhinai, General Manager of Archer Aviation, said the aircraft will first operate in Abu Dhabi as part of the country’s push toward urban air mobility. A full commercial rollout will follow in phases, starting with unpopulated test areas before expanding into urban settings.
“Midnight represents a major milestone in our journey to redefine urban transportation. It aligns with the UAE’s ambition to lead in sustainable and innovative mobility solutions,” Alhinai said.
Production and UAE plans
Archer Aviation recently launched a manufacturing facility in Georgia, USA, with an initial annual output of 650 aircraft. The company plans to scale production up to 2,400 units per year.
In the UAE, Archer has signed a framework agreement with the Abu Dhabi Investment Office to set up a research centre and explore the possibility of local manufacturing. Alhinai noted that more details would be shared soon.
Aircraft specifications
Midnight is designed for short-distance, zero-emission flights and can carry four passengers and a pilot. It uses 12 electric motors—six fixed at the rear and six tilt-capable at the front—to achieve vertical takeoff and transition to horizontal flight. The front motors can rotate between 0 and 90 degrees, allowing a full transition in 45 seconds.
A specific date for the launch of commercial services has not yet been confirmed, pending technical and regulatory readiness.
