More than half of UAE residents are planning international holidays this summer, with many considering new and previously unvisited destinations, according to a recent survey by travel platform Skyscanner.
Shift in travel plans
The survey found that 55% of UAE travellers intend to travel abroad this summer to escape the seasonal heat. Among them, 59% are open to exploring destinations they hadn’t considered before, reflecting a growing appetite for fresh travel experiences.
Nearly half of those surveyed (48%) had not yet booked their trips but are actively searching.
Skyscanner’s data highlights that residents with valid UAE visas enjoy simplified entry to various countries without the need for additional visas. This ease, combined with the UAE’s strong global connectivity and direct flights, makes international travel particularly convenient for families.
Family-friendly options
To support holiday planning, Skyscanner has identified three destinations gaining popularity among UAE families:
Georgia: Searches for the country rose by 21% in April. The capital, Tbilisi, offers family attractions like the National Museum and Mtatsminda Park, known for its rides and a panoramic Ferris wheel. Coastal resorts also cater to families seeking a relaxed beach holiday.
Montenegro: One of Europe’s smallest countries offers a mix of outdoor adventures such as canyoning in the Durmitor Mountains, visiting agrotourism farms, and zip-lining over the Tara Gorge. These activities appeal to both adults and children.
Kazakhstan: With nature-based and educational experiences, Kazakhstan is gaining traction. Almaty’s Kok-Tobe Hill features an amusement park with rides, while Charyn Canyon, known as the “Grand Canyon of Central Asia,” provides hiking trails and wildlife sightings for kids and families.
Changing preferences
Skyscanner notes a shift in travel behaviour, particularly among families seeking new experiences that offer both value and enrichment.
“With the summer holidays coinciding with the traditional end-of-school academic years, parents are looking to make the most of the long summer in new environments.
“Rather than returning to familiar destinations, many now prefer lesser-known destinations that not only offers value for money but also unique and enjoyable experiences, benefitting both adults and children while exploring new cultures and settings,” said Ayoub El Mamoun, Travel Expert at Skyscanner.
