France has emerged as the top choice for UAE residents planning late summer holidays, according to dnata Travel.
The company reported a 12% year-on-year increase in July bookings for August and September trips, with growing interest in city breaks, cooler climates, and easily accessible destinations.
Popular destinations
France led dnata’s July bookings, reflecting its peak travel season in August. The country appeals to UAE travellers looking for a change in summer experience — offering warm days, cooler evenings, and a packed calendar of cultural events.
The Maldives followed closely in second place, continuing its popularity among UAE travellers. Thailand, Turkey, and Austria completed the top five, with Austria gaining attention for its cooler weather and nature-focused getaways.
Travel preferences shift
Meerah Ketait, Head of Retail and Leisure at dnata Travel, said: “We’re seeing a lot of UAE travellers make more considered choices – they know what they want from a holiday. That might be cooler weather, a vibrant city break, or a destination that’s easy to get to and unwind in. It’s about getting the most out of their time away.”
City breaks are currently the most booked type of trip, followed by family holidays and beach escapes. The data points to a trend of short, immersive travel experiences — from weekend getaways to urban explorations.
Secret Stays Maldives launched
While most travellers still book two to three months ahead, dnata Travel notes a growing interest in last-minute trips.
To cater to this trend, the company has introduced Secret Stays Maldives, a new offering where the luxury resort’s name is only revealed after the booking is confirmed.
“This kind of travel reflects a shift in mindset,” added Ketait. “Some people are more open to surprise and discovery, especially when they trust the quality of what’s being offered. For them, that sense of adventure is part of the appeal.”
New travel hotspots
Besides the usual destinations, Greece, the Czech Republic, Japan, and Canada are seeing increased demand for late summer travel. These countries offer a mix of cooler weather, cultural activities, and seasonal attractions.
As the season continues, UAE travellers appear eager to explore — whether it’s Paris, the Maldives, or emerging European cities — with strong interest in making the most of the remaining summer months.
