Travelling with family across multiple generations is becoming an increasingly popular trend among UAE travellers, driven by a desire to reconnect and share meaningful experiences.
Skyscanner data shows that 41% of travellers plan to take multi-generational trips in 2026, building on a recent trend where 31% reported travelling with parents or grandparents in the past two years.
Rising trend among younger generations
Multi-generational travel is particularly popular with younger adults, such as Gen Z and Millennials. Over the past two years, 51% of Millennials have travelled with both their children and parents, while 22% of Gen Z adults have journeyed with parents and grandparents.
More than a quarter of Gen Z respondents say saving money or sharing travel costs is a key reason for choosing to travel with family.
While budgeting plays a role, family travel is increasingly valued for the opportunity to spend quality time together. “Driven by a desire for deeper connection, away from the daily routines and digital distractions, family miles are gaining traction, despite increased proximity at home,” according to travel experts. Exploring new destinations together offers families a unique chance to bond, share stories, and create lasting memories across generations.
Growing interest in family-friendly travel
Supporting this trend, global hotel bookings made with “family” filters have increased by 66% year-on-year. Discussions on platforms like Reddit about family travel have surged by 387% during the same period, highlighting growing enthusiasm for multi-generational trips.
For adults, multi-generational travel means more than just catching up. Surveys show that 59% see it as a way to make memories, 29% value the chance to truly connect, and 20% appreciate the ability to share costs.
As family travel gains momentum, it reflects broader changes in how people prioritise their time and relationships. Multi-generational trips offer a space for deeper interaction and enjoyment, away from the demands of everyday life.
