Staycations surge as UAE residents explore local destinations

UAE residents are increasingly choosing staycations across the Emirates for the upcoming Eid Al-Fitr, with many opting for short luxury breaks closer to home, according to data from travel platform Wego.

The company said searches for hotels within the UAE have risen ahead of the holiday period, with strong demand for beachfront resorts, wellness retreats and luxury city hotels, particularly in Dubai and other emirates.

Rising searches

Wego said domestic hotel searches have increased as some residents reconsider overseas travel plans and instead look for short breaks within the country.

Craig Hewett, Co-Founder and Chief Hotels Officer at Wego, said: “We’re seeing a strong rise in domestic hotel searches on Wego as residents look to spend the Eid holiday within the UAE. The country’s safe and well-managed environment continues to give travelers confidence, and this is translating into growing demand for local resorts and staycations.”

According to the company, many travellers are prioritising convenience and privacy, with families and small groups choosing destinations that can be reached easily without the complexity of international travel.

Popular destinations

Luxury beachfront resorts in Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah are among the most searched options ahead of the Eid break.

Travellers are showing strong interest in properties offering private beach access, large suites and family-friendly facilities. Resorts with spa services, lagoon-style pools and nature-focused settings are also seeing growing attention from guests seeking relaxation within a short drive from home.

The data points to a broader shift toward shorter, high-quality breaks, with many residents choosing premium local experiences rather than long-haul travel during the holiday.

Hotel options

Several hotels across the UAE are attracting interest from travellers planning Eid staycations.

Rooms at Marriott Marquis Dubai Creek start from about Dhs404 per night. The hotel overlooks Dubai Creek and offers easy access to the city’s historic districts and dining areas.

At Kempinski Central Avenue Dubai, rooms start from about Dhs498 per night. The property is located in Downtown Dubai with direct access to The Dubai Mall and views of Burj Khalifa.

In Ras Al Khaimah, rooms at The Cove Rotana Resort start from about Dhs541 per night. The resort sits along the Arabian Gulf and features hillside villas inspired by traditional Arabian architecture.

On the UAE’s east coast, Fujairah Rotana Resort & Spa offers rooms starting from about Dhs627 per night. The resort is located between the Hajar Mountains and the Indian Ocean, with direct beach access and spa facilities.

Wego said many travellers are also using the promocode WEGOSAVE26 for selected hotel bookings across the UAE.

As the Eid holiday approaches, domestic tourism continues to appeal to residents looking for a convenient getaway without leaving the country. Short luxury stays and resort experiences remain a popular way for many families to celebrate the break while avoiding long-distance travel.
