Etihad Rail has shared new details about its upcoming passenger train services, offering a clearer picture of what commuters, business travellers and families can expect when operations begin later this year.
The update follows the announcement of the UAE’s national passenger rail network, which aims to provide a reliable alternative to intercity road travel and support the country’s wider mobility and sustainability plans.
Daily commuting plans
The passenger service is designed to meet the needs of daily commuters across the UAE. According to the company, trains will operate on a consistent timetable with guaranteed seating and a calm onboard environment to help passengers plan their day.
Azza AlSuwaidi, Deputy CEO, Etihad Rail Mobility said: “This next phase of our passenger journey is about moving from infrastructure to experience. We are designing a service that people will actively choose because it fits naturally into their daily lives.”
She added: “For commuters, we know that reliability is everything. Etihad Rail will offer a journey people can plan around. One that gives them useful and usable time back, rather than taking it away.”
Business travel features
For business travellers, the rail network will provide onboard Wi-Fi, power outlets at every seat and spacious interiors. The aim is to allow passengers to work or prepare for meetings while travelling between major economic centres in the UAE.
The company said the service is structured to offer a professional and connected environment for those moving between cities for work.
Family-friendly travel
Families and leisure travellers are also a key focus. The trains will include family seating options and dedicated luggage storage to support holidays, weekend trips and visits to relatives.
Azza AlSuwaidi, Deputy CEO, Etihad Rail Mobility said, “Our rail experience which is designed to create a very different family dynamic. Instead of focusing on the road, families can focus on each other. That shared time is one of the most powerful benefits of passenger rail and feels apt given 2026 is the UAE Year of the Family.”
The company said the design of stations and onboard services reflects an Emirati identity, with safety and reliability positioned as core priorities. It added that operations will follow international best practice and strict standards to ensure a secure and consistent passenger experience across the network.
