Private sector employees in the UAE have been granted an additional day off in celebration of the UAE National Day, resulting in a welcomed three-day weekend for workers.

Initially, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation had designated only December 2 and 3 as paid holidays for this national occasion. However, in a recent announcement, the ministry expanded the holiday period to include December 4 (Monday), creating an extended weekend for private sector employees.

This adjustment aligns with the holiday schedule for government workers, who will also enjoy a break from December 2 to 4. Preceding the holiday, on Friday, December 1, government employees will engage in remote work, a customary practice as Fridays typically constitute a half-day for most in the public sector due to a 4.5-day work week.

National Day, also known as UAE Union Day, is celebrated on December 2 annually, commemorating the unification of the Emirates in 1971. As the country marks its 52nd year, employees from all sectors will return to work on Tuesday, December 5, following the festive long weekend.
