The UAE’s food supply chain remains stable and well-prepared to meet demand, supported by strong logistics networks and global sourcing, a senior official said during a market visit in Sharjah.

Food security system

Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri said the country’s food security system is not limited to local stockpiles but is backed by global trade links that ensure alternative supply sources are available when needed.

He noted that this approach helps maintain the availability of essential goods in the market at all times, including during peak seasons and holidays.

Logistics network

During an inspection visit to Lulu Hypermarket, the minister highlighted the UAE’s logistics infrastructure, including ports, shipping routes, and air and land transport systems.

He said these systems position the UAE as a regional hub for food distribution and help ensure uninterrupted supply chains even during disruptions.

Market stability

The minister said major retail outlets play a key role in maintaining supply and stabilising prices by managing inventory and meeting consumer demand.

The visit focused on monitoring price stability and ensuring sufficient stock of essential goods ahead of the Eid period.

The tour covered sections including fresh produce, bakery items, meat, fish, dairy, and other daily essentials.

Retail role

Yusuff Ali M.A. said the company is working with its global suppliers to keep products available and maintain stable prices across its UAE stores.

He said the group recently imported more than 5,000 tonnes of food products through 26 chartered flights and cargo shipments.

He also thanked the UAE leadership and government authorities for their support and ongoing coordination.

Price monitoring

The Ministry of Economy and Tourism, working with local authorities, continues to monitor markets through specialised teams and a digital price tracking system.

The system covers 627 major retail outlets, including hypermarkets and cooperatives, accounting for about 90 per cent of the country’s internal trade in essential goods.

Officials said the monitoring helps maintain price stability and protect consumer interests. Residents can report violations, shortages, or unfair pricing through 8001222 or by email at info@moet.gov.ae.
