A new report from YouGov suggests strong demand in the UAE’s automotive market, with nearly two-thirds of residents expecting to buy a new car within the next three years.

Next-Gen Automakers UAE 2025 study

According to the Next-Gen Automakers UAE 2025 study, 63 percent of respondents are considering a car purchase, while 29 percent plan to buy within the next 12 months. Interest is highest among men at 73 percent and among parents with children under 18 at 54 percent.

Most near-term buyers fall within the 25–44 age group, indicating demand from middle-income professionals and families.

Brand awareness

The survey shows high recognition of emerging automakers, with 76 percent of residents able to name at least one newer brand. Chinese manufacturers lead the list. Jetour recorded 42 percent awareness, followed by BYD at 40 percent. Other brands gaining traction include Polestar at 14 percent and Lucid Motors at 12 percent.

Models from XPeng, Zeekr and NIO are also gradually entering public awareness.

Among residents planning to buy within three years, 66 percent say they would consider a new or recently established automaker. The figure rises to 72 percent among electric vehicle buyers and 74 percent among hybrid buyers.

Shift toward EVs

Respondents see Chinese automakers as the fastest-growing globally, while Japanese and German brands remain associated with quality and reliability. Japanese manufacturers continue to lead in perceptions of craftsmanship and long-term value, though Chinese brands are increasingly viewed as affordable and innovative.

Safety features, technology and warranty coverage remain top priorities for buyers. Nearly half of those planning to purchase within the next year list cost as the main barrier, followed by concerns about reliability and resale value.

YouGov’s data points to an active period ahead for the UAE automotive sector, supported by strong consumer confidence, rising interest in electric and hybrid models and growing awareness of international brands entering the market.
