UAE investors are juggling business ventures, retirement plans and family wealth transfers, with 87% confident of meeting their short-term financial goals, according to new HSBC research published in Dubai.
The survey of 703 affluent and high-net-worth investors in the UAE found that 21% are launching, acquiring or investing in a new business, compared with 17% globally. The findings were released as HSBC hosted its first UAE Wealth Investment Summit in Dubai.
UAE investors plan for multiple financial goals
UAE investors are planning for an average of 2.7 major life stages simultaneously, compared with 2.5 globally. These include business ventures, children’s futures, property moves and retirement.
Confidence remains high, with 81% saying they expect to meet their long-term financial goals. Meanwhile, 83% are satisfied with their quality of life, above the global average of 75%.
Flexible retirement gains popularity in the UAE
Traditional retirement is becoming less common among surveyed investors. Some 81% expect to leave work gradually or flexibly, while 35% plan to pursue a second career, advisory roles or other professional interests. Just 19% expect to stop working entirely at a set retirement age.
UAE inheritance and family wealth transfer
The research highlights a significant expected transfer of wealth between generations. Half of UAE investors expect to receive a substantial inheritance, compared with 43% globally.
Among respondents who expect to inherit wealth and could estimate its value, the median expected inheritance is around Dhs 2 million. Meanwhile, 58% expect to leave a significant financial legacy to their heirs or other causes.
Business ownership is also a priority for families passing on wealth. Some 32% of those planning a legacy want to provide heirs with capital to start or expand a business, compared with 24% globally.
The findings also show that 82% of UAE investors say they have a clear strategy for supporting their families across multiple generations, highlighting the growing importance of long-term financial and inheritance planning.
