Residents whose UAE residency permits expired while they were outside the country will be allowed to return without applying for a new entry visa, under a temporary decision announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security.
The move comes after many residents were unable to travel back due to airspace closures and flight suspensions in the region.
Return window
The authority said the decision applies to residents who were outside the UAE and whose residency permits expired on or after February 28, 2026 while they were abroad.
Affected residents can enter the UAE without obtaining a new visa and will be able to regularise their residency status without paying fines linked to the delay.
The measure will remain in effect for one month from February 28 and will be valid until March 31, 2026.
Who can benefit
The decision covers residents who could not return because of airspace closures or disruptions in global air travel.
Authorities said the step is meant to help residents who were unable to renew their permits on time due to circumstances beyond their control.
It also allows family members whose residency expired while abroad to return and reunite with their families in the UAE.
Airport procedures
The authority said emergency response and business continuity plans are in place across UAE airports and operational locations to ensure smooth travel procedures.
Officials are also handling cases linked to flight postponements or rescheduling and providing support to residents affected by the travel disruptions.
Residents were advised to follow official channels for updates and any regulatory measures related to the situation.
