Dubai motorists will face a revised maximum fine of Dhs10,000 per vehicle per year under the latest updates from Salik, the city’s toll gate operator. This change sets a cap on the total fines that can be incurred from Salik toll violations within a calendar year, spanning from January 1 to December 31.

According to the new guidelines, motorists can challenge a toll violation only if it has been recorded in their traffic file within 13 months from the date the violation was issued. Additionally, the updated terms specify that no balance refunds or transfers will be permitted for Salik accounts.
Salik has also expanded its services with the recent installation of new toll gates at Dubai Mall, effective from July 1. These gates are part of a five-year agreement, with parking rates starting at Dh20 per hour and going up to Dhs1,000 for 24-hour parking.

Under the partnership, Salik is responsible for the design, financing, development, installation, and management of the parking payment system, while Dubai Mall provides the necessary infrastructure, office space, and maintenance for the parking facilities. Salik boasts a robust presence in Dubai, with over 4.1 million active vehicle registrations.
Salik customers are advised to report any defective tags within 90 days to have them replaced free of charge upon confirmation of the defect. In cases of lost or stolen plates or vehicles, customers must promptly inform Salik through authorized channels to deactivate the associated tag.

“If Salik does not receive notification regarding the loss or theft of a vehicle or plate, Salik will continue to deduct tolls, payments, and any incurred fines from the user’s account,” stated the Dubai-listed company.
Additionally, Salik accounts will be considered inactive if no transactions, payments, or balance top-ups occur over a five-year period. Once inactive, any remaining balance on the account will be forfeited.
These updates, which were announced about a month ago, aim to streamline the tolling process and enhance the efficiency of Salik’s operations.
