The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reduced the number of driver licensing services from 33 to 15 as part of an ongoing effort to enhance digital public services across Dubai.

Licensing process simplified

The streamlined process is part of a wider RTA initiative to re-engineer customer journeys, aiming to improve efficiency, reduce service steps, and minimize in-person visits.

The change also supports the Dubai government’s broader vision to improve the quality of life through smart and integrated services.

“The initiative to re-engineer the customer journey and streamline the process of obtaining a driver’s licence through smart channels is part of a comprehensive roadmap aimed at enhancing RTA’s services and improving the overall customer experience,” said Sultan Al Akraf, Director of Driver Licensing at the RTA’s Licensing Agency.

Unified digital access

The new system uses advanced technology and data integration to consolidate all licensing services under a single digital platform, the Dubai Drive App. The updates fall under RTA’s “Services 360” plan, which aims to provide integrated, proactive services for vehicle owners, drivers, and public transport users.

Al Akraf explained: “The initiative focuses on harnessing advanced technologies and data integration to enhance driver licensing services and enable customers to access all RTA services through a unified app that caters to vehicle owners, drivers, and public transport users.”

Fully online services

According to RTA, services such as applying for or renewing a driver’s licence, updating personal details, transferring trainee files, and replacing lost or damaged licences can now be accessed entirely online through the RTA website.

“A range of services has been developed and streamlined, including applying for or managing a driver’s licence, adding new vehicle categories, transferring a trainee’s file between driving institutes, updating personal information, renewing a licence, and requesting a replacement in case of loss or damage,” said Al Akraf.

Enhanced customer experience

The updates are designed to reduce wait times, improve operational efficiency, and promote integration with other government platforms.

“RTA remains committed to enhancing the quality of services provided to both corporate and individual customers in line with the highest international standards,” Al Akraf added.

He confirmed that proactive notifications are now active, and all relevant services are accessible via simplified steps, removing the need for physical visits to service centres.
