Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has started a series of road enhancements on Al Thanya Street, a major route connecting Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Wasl Road.
The project aims to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety in one of the city’s busiest residential corridors.
The works include converting the existing roundabout on Sheikh Zayed Road’s service road into a more efficient layout and building a new signalised junction at the intersection of Street 10 and Al Thanya Street. These changes are designed to ease congestion and improve accessibility for road users.
Safer pedestrian routes
RTA is also introducing safer walking routes and installing traffic signals to improve pedestrian and cyclist movement along the road. These upgrades aim to boost overall safety and encourage more sustainable transport options in the area.
The new junction at Street 10 is expected to reduce travel distances for residents commuting between Umm Al Sheif and Al Manara, improving daily mobility within the community. According to RTA, the changes will also support future traffic volumes on Al Thanya Street and strengthen links with nearby residential and commercial zones.
The Al Thanya Street improvements are part of RTA’s ongoing strategy to expand and upgrade Dubai’s road network in line with the city’s rapid growth. The project is set for completion by early September 2025.
Al Thanya Street serves several key areas including Jumeirah, Al Wasl, Umm Suqeim, Umm Al Sheif, and Al Manara. The enhancements are expected to ease vehicle movement, strengthen connections to main roads, and contribute to the overall well-being of residents.
