Plate number BB12 recorded the highest value at Dubai’s latest number plate auction, selling for Dhs 9.66 million as total proceeds reached a record level, according to figures released by the Roads and Transport Authority.
The 120th open auction of distinctive vehicle number plates, held on Saturday evening, generated total proceeds of Dhs 109.026 million. RTA said this was the highest revenue recorded since distinctive number plate auctions were introduced.
Top-selling plates
BB12 emerged as the most expensive plate of the auction at Dhs 9.66 million. It was followed by AA25, which sold for Dhs 8.04 million, BB30 at Dhs 6.74 million, and CC100 at Dhs 4.21 million.
RTA said the results reflect its approach to managing both open and electronic auctions. The authority follows a system based on transparency and neutrality, offering equal access to bidders interested in acquiring distinctive vehicle number plates, which are often seen as having symbolic or personal value.
A total of 90 distinctive vehicle number plates were offered at the auction. These included two, three, four and five-digit plates from the codes AA, BB, CC, K, N, O, R, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z.
Registration for the auction opened on Monday, December 22. Participants were able to register through RTA’s website, at Customer Happiness Centres in Umm Ramool, Deira and Al Barsha, or at the auction venue. Priority access was given to those who registered in advance. All sales were subject to a 5 percent value-added tax.
