Flayva, a lively food hall, partnered with Allo Beirut, a renowned Lebanese street food restaurant, to achieve a Guinness World Records™ title by hosting the largest shawarma-tasting event ever.
This exciting event took place at Al Ghurair Centre, where 312 participants shared over 900 shawarmas in three tasty varieties prepared by Allo Beirut.
Celebrating Shawarma with the community
The event celebrated one of the Middle East’s favorite dishes—shawarma. Participants enjoyed three types of wraps: chicken, spicy chicken, and chicken avocado. Each participant took at least one bite of all three wraps to officially join the record attempt. Attendees included Al Ghurair employees and students from the Metaverse School.
Students from Middlesex University Dubai helped validate the record, monitoring the event to ensure it met Guinness World Records™ standards. Three stewards managed the participants in groups, ensuring everyone tasted all the shawarmas, while two official witnesses oversaw the process.
A culinary milestone for Dubai
Michael Beverly, Executive Vice President at Al Ghurair Centre, reflected on the event’s success, saying: “That was fun! The record reflects our core values to not only offer diverse culinary experiences, but to use our platform for community engagement and achieve global recognition.” He emphasized that the event highlighted the unifying power of food and Dubai’s growing culinary scene.
Charbel Mhanna, CEO of Black Spoon Group, expressed pride in participating, stating, “Shawarma is more than just a dish; it’s a symbol of Middle Eastern hospitality and tradition.”
He noted that celebrating this iconic street food with the community while setting a world record was a memorable experience.
By achieving this world record, Flayva and Allo Beirut have elevated Dubai’s food scene, showcasing the city’s rich culinary heritage. Flayva features 23 local dining concepts, offering a variety of cuisines, including Lebanese, Indonesian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and Turkish, making it a vibrant destination for food lovers.
